Microlife

Windows desktop app for measuring and tracking patients' metabolism with a medical device

Summary

Windows desktop application for a medical device manufacturer, connecting to their indirect calorimeter to measure patients' resting metabolic rate and recommend personalized caloric intake for clinical weight management programs.

The Challenge

Microlife, a manufacturer of digital medical thermometers and blood pressure monitoring devices, needed a Windows desktop application for their indirect calorimeter product line. Health and wellness professionals needed a tool that could interface with the device, capture resting metabolic rate measurements, and help patients manage weight loss with personalized caloric recommendations.

The Solution

Led a team of one to two developers to build a WPF desktop application that connects to Microlife's medical device, captures metabolic measurements, stores patient data in SQL Express, and calculates recommended caloric intake based on measured resting metabolic rate.

The Results

Clinicians gained a desktop companion application that turns raw device readings into personalized patient recommendations, caloric targets based on scientifically measured metabolism rather than generic estimates.
